Our Location

1692 Wasdale is located at the start of the beautiful Wasdale Valley in the Western Lake District. This dramatic and remote area is home to Wastwater - England’s deepest lake, Great Gable, Napes Needle and the iconic Scafell Pike - England’s highest mountain.

A world away from the busy south and central lakes, the westerly side is a wild & rugged gem offering walks and activities for all abilities. 1692 Wasdale enjoys an elevated position with far reaching views into the valley and across the sea to the Isle of Man. There are lovely walks from our door, more strenuous walks from the valleys, miles of sand at the beach and some fantastic sunsets.

Wasdale Head is home to the birthplace of rock climbing and Wastwater whose depths have always been an attraction to divers, is now also being enjoyed on the surface by canoes and paddle-boarders. Cyclists will enjoy the challenges of the lakeland passes!

For less strenuous outings there are Roman ruins, a Viking cross, Muncaster Castle with the Hawk & Owl Centre, a narrow gauge railway and the estuary and village of Ravenglass which is the only site in the world to be in 2 World Heritage classifications!
