Tarns are small mountain lakes and we have over 100 of them here in the Lake District. The word 'tarn' comes from the Norse word ‘tjorn’ which means 'teardrop' and if you come across one on a walk, it may well move you to tears (of joy!).

This is our largest room and has been named after the glorious fells of the lake district and in particular Scafell Pike which is the highest mountain in England and can be seen from 1692 Wasdale.

Named for the gorgeous Border Collie so numerous in the Lake District. Shepherds throughout the world rely upon Border Collies and they are a stalwart of Sheep dog trails. Renowned for their intelligence and faithful nature they are typically black and white, but brown and tri-colour variants do occur. We have our own collie called Tip who you are bound to meet on your stay.

Ironically, given its name, we do NOT allow DOGS in this room.
This suite is named after our very hardy, native breed of sheep often called the Guardian of Lakeland due to its importance in maintaining the appearance of the high fells. Herdwick lambs are born completely black and as they get older, they become a lighter mottled grey.
This is our only first floor room and has a number of features including some interesting beams and a Barn Owl hole which has now been glazed. This room is carpeted using Herdwick wool carpet and has 2 stylish radiators.
The bathroom is reached through a glass pocket-door and has a large basin, walk-in shower and wall hung toilet from Porcelanosa. Complimentary toiletries are provided from The Bath House in Sedburgh along with large soft Egyptian Cotton towels and a heated floor!

Herdwick's private patio is accessed from downstairs.
